National Baháí SchoolsIdeas from the Committees—Inspiring Devotional Programs“Blessed Journey” from Georgia’s National Bahá’í SchoolTThis moving activity was created by Lauren Johnson, and was a direct outcome of her Core Curriculum teacher-training several years ago. In 2004 it was performed only for the children; in 2005 for the entire school — Children, youth and adults traveled through the activity, in small groups of 8 to 12 at a time. “The Blessed Journey” involved several “stations” decorated with gorgeous painted backdrops, as well as rugs and other appropriate props, representing various sites associated with the Ministry of Bahá’u’lláh. These included the Siyah-Chal, Garden of Ridván, mountains of Sulayman-i-ih, Constantinople, Adrianople, ‘Akká and Bahji. Each group was escorted to the next station by a costumed dramatist. In each station one or more costumed dramatists (committee members and other volunteers) told the story of what occurred at that point in Bahá’u’lláh’s Life. The stories were factual and inspiring, with some participants moved to tears. (It was especially significant that this activity was held on the Anniversary of Bahá’u’lláh’s Ascension.) The entire “journey” took each group about 45 minutes; each group followed the previous one at 5-minute intervals. The Georgia Bahá’í School Committee has since also performed the “journey” as a theatrical performance with a stationary audience. Scripts and photos are being posted at the committee’s “Wiki website”: http://www.gabahairegionalschools.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Journey/Journey. [back to Ideas from the Committees]
