National Baháí SchoolsIdeas from the Committees—Youth Programs“Dawnbreakers Walk ” from Western Oregon’s National Bahá’í SchoolAt Western Oregon’s Carmel Bahá’í School session for youth and junior youth, they have experienced a couple of different versions of the highly moving activity, “Dawnbreakers Walk”. Several adults and older youth counselors prepare for their role by researching the life of an individual dawnbreaker or Bahá’í martyr. Some wear a costume to better represent this martyr. Each of these dramatists is positioned a few feet off a path in the woods, sitting in the dark with a flashlight. The students travel this path, in small groups, with their cabin counselors. When they approach each dramatist, the “dawnbreaker” switches on his or her flashlight, introduces him/herself as the historical character, and tells the story of their life and service and sacrifices for the Faith. The group then travels on to meet the next “dawnbreaker”. This experience leaves a deep impact, and is the turning point of the session, inspiring students to consecrate themselves to the Cause.
